Stanley Ansel Hathaway, 83, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT surrounded by his family. He was born in Burlington, VT on August 24, 1936 to Stanley E. and Dorothy (Dunn) Hathaway.  Stanley graduated from Essex Junction High School in 1955.  He married Sandra O’Neil on November 24, 1956. Stanley and Sandra were married for 63 years and made many happy memories together.


Stanley was employed by IBM in Essex Junction in facilities and maintenance and retired after 28 years of employment.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy. 


Stanley was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son Scott and his brothers any chance he could. He was an outstanding athlete, participating in basketball, and baseball, and was a member of the Essex Junction men’s softball league for many years.  In his later years, he was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints where he achieved his priesthood in 2006. 


Stanley was the definition of a family man. He dedicated his life to his family and showed great pride in that.


Left behind to cherish Stanley’s memory are his wife, Sandra; 6 children, Kim Goulette of Essex Junction, Bonnie Van Schijndel and her husband Ken of Irvine, CA, Scott Hathaway of Burlington, VT, Tracy Fitzgerald of Ira, VT, Karen Hathaway Adams and her husband Bill of St. Albans, VT, and Belinda Hathaway Hull of Yuma, AZ and wife Colleen Hull. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; Adrienne, Alanna, Danny, Mark, Macy, Caleb, Amber and Hannah; 9 great-grandchildren; Landon, Cooper, Lilah, Charlotte, Angela, Mark, Izzy, Carter, and Kayleigh. Two brothers, Donald Hathaway and his wife Carol; and Michael Hathaway and his wife Gail; a sister Sharon Adams and her husband Butch Adams, many nieces and nephews also survive.  We would like to send a special thank you to Sarah Brown of Milton, VT for her tireless care of Stanley these past few months, and to the staff of UVMMC.


Stanley was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Dorothy Hathaway, brothers Robert Hathaway and Norman Hathaway, and grandson Ryan Stemmer.


 A service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction, VT.
