Robert E. “Bob” Brown of Essex Junction, passed away on February 24, 2021 following a long battle with Leukemia.

Bob was born in Burlington on April 19, 1957, the son of Harry E. and Kathleen (Shanley) Brown.  He attended Cathedral Grammar School and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in the class of 1975.  He played varsity football for 3 years and was on the golf team his senior year.  In 1979 he graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with associates degrees in both Allied Science and Mortuary Science.

On May 2, 1981, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Mary-Ellen Eno in Christ the King Church.  Together they had two sons, Christopher and Andrew Brown. 

From 1975 – 2011 Bob was employed as a funeral director and embalmer.  It was an honor for him to serve families in Chittenden County for all those years and continued to serve families throughout Vermont through the Catholic Diocese.

He was a member of the VT Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association where he served on their Executive Board for 20 years and as President for 8 years. He was also a member of the NFDA where he served on the Policy Board.  He was a member of BPOE #916 for over 40 years and served as Esquire for over 20 years.  He was an avid golfer belonging to Rocky Ridge Golf Club and as a member of the Ray Maddocks YMCA golf league for many years. 

Bob is survived by his wife of 39 years Mary-Ellen; sons Christopher R. and Joanne (Casale) of Burlington, VT and Andrew P. and Danielle (Trombly) and their son Liam T. (Bob’s pride and joy) of Essex Junction; brothers and sisters Gregory S. Brown of Stowe, VT, Mary Ann Brown and Bill Buley of Rouses Point, NY, Susan Relyea and Ken “Brezz” Beardsley, Jane Langlois, Richard Brown and Lisa Terjelian all of Burlington, Patrick Brown of South Burlington; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Also surviving are Mary Ellen’s extended family, Uncle James and Barbara Amblo, Aunt Suzanne Sawyer and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Kathleen Brown, his in-laws Edwin and Janet Eno, and his brother and wife Stephen and Sandra Brown.

Note from Bob: To my wife, a very special thank you for being my soulmate and especially my caregiver during my illness; you are the best sweetie.  

Brother Patrick, my hero, my buddy, thank you for your bravery in donating your stem cells to give me a chance to win this battle with leukemia. We almost did it buddy!  For that may God bless you.

A private Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery.  Donations may be made to Essex Rescue, 1 Educational Drive, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
