Mary Louise Bower passed away March 27, 2022 at Elderwood at Burlington.  Mary was born in Hackensack New Jersey on September 10, 1930 to Charles F. and Dorthea (Mehrkens) Bower.  Mary grew up in New York and New Jersey, graduating from Bergenfield High School. She went on to New England Bible Institute in Framingham MA, graduating in 1951.   She moved many times in her life but spent the bulk of her adult life in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and Vermont.  She was employed by the University of Vermont starting in 1959 in the purchasing office. Later she worked in the UVM Natural Resources division.  She then worked in the Accounting office at UVM until her retirement in 1995.  

After retirement Mary took care of her mother until her death in 2000.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, and doing puzzles with her mother.  Mary was an avid reader especially from her favorite authors Zane Gray and Grace Livingston Hill.  Mary was a devout Christian and was active in several local churches.  She participated in many Bible studies and was a wise and knowledgeable woman whom people turned to for spiritual advice.  

Mary is survived by her nephew James D. Bower of Florida and Vermont, niece Joanne Murphy (Mark), grand-nephew Benjamin Murphy all of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother Charles Forbes Bower, Jr.   

A graveside service will be held at Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe VT in the spring.
