Marian Kriel Schraml
Marian Margaret Kriel Schraml, 91, of Essex Junction, Vermont, died on March 22, 2020 at the McClure- Miller Respite House, in Colchester, Vermont. Her daughter, Karen Schraml, was at her side.
Marian was born on July 19, 1928, in Rome, New York, to Sophia VanWaes Kriel and Frank Kriel. She graduated from Rome Free Academy High School, and worked for New York Telephone until after the birth of her second child. Marian married Bernard Karl Schraml on August 28, 1948, in Rome, New York. They had ten children, all of whom survive: Bernard Francis Schraml (Mary), Barbara McCarthy(John), Mary Louise Griffo (John), William Schraml (Linda), Theresa Bevers (Jeff), James Schraml, Joseph Schraml (Yvonne), Karen Schraml, Michael Schraml and Elizabeth Bushey (Todd). Survivors also include seventeen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, eighteen nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Theresa Mazzacua and Joan Schraml, and brother-in-law Ronald Ruane. Marian was predeceased by her parents, sister Patricia Kriel Adolfi, her granddaughter Tina Bowles, and Bernard K. Schraml, the father of their ten children. Marian’s hobbies included walking, crocheting, gardening, craft making, and spending time with her family.
After raising their ten children, Marian worked for 15 years in the maternity ward of The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. Her family would like to thank the Medical Center’s doctors and nurses for the care they provided during Marian’s brief hospitalization, and the comfort provided by staff at UVM’s McClure-Miller Respite House, during her final days.
A Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Rome, New York, and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, will be scheduled for a later date.
