Obituary

Marian Doty Bickford, 97, died July 21, 2022. Born December 25, 1924, daughter of Howard R. and Amelia “Millie” (Stewart) Doty in Glenside, PA. Marian graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1945, becoming a Gamma Phi Beta sister and lifelong Nittany Lions football fan. In June 1948 she married Harry Goss Bickford of Manchester, NH in Jenkintown, PA. After 18 years working at the University of Vermont, she retired in 1984. She remained active in her sorority, alumni, bridge clubs, knitting, and library volunteer work.

Marian is survived by her four children, their spouses, four grandchildren, and three great-grand-children: H. Randall and Christina (Repas) and Hollie (Leister) Bickford with their sons Miles and Quinn; Douglas and Jeanne (Spence) Bickford and their two children, Son Andrew, and Michelle (Cole) Bickford with their daughter, Amelia “Mia”, and daughter Rebecca Bickford; Amelia “Amy” (Bickford) and husband Scott Tower and their son Alexander Tower and fiancé LeeAnna Fomkin; and Bruce Bickford.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Corbin & Palmer Funeral Home, Essex Junction, will oversee arrangements. Gifts to your local library would best honor her memory.
