John Frank “Del” Del Vecchio, Sr

June 1, 1935 ~ June 7, 2020 (age 85)

John Frank “Del” Del Vecchio, Sr. of Shelburne, Vermont passed away on June 7, 2020. He was born June 1,1935 in Syracuse, New York to loving parents Honorable Frank Del Vecchio and Angela (Pirro) Del Vecchio of Syracuse.

He graduated from Nottingham High School, St. Lawrence University, and Syracuse University Law School. He worked as an attorney in Syracuse for over 50 years.

Del moved to Vermont in 2016 to live with his only son, John, Jr., daughter-in-law Ning, and family shih tzu Bella among the pines, apple and pear trees, and birches overlooking the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain.

Del never let work get in the way of living the good life. He invented the “Three Day Workweek.” Over several decades, he drove more than 500,000 miles between Syracuse and his charming cabin in Sugarbush, Vermont, often in his beloved 1964 Corvette Sting Ray convertible.

He traveled the world and enjoyed golf, tennis, and skiing, especially with his son. Del loved the ponies and spent every year at the “August Place to Be”, Saratoga.

He was a wonderful cook and his “Del” Francaise and spaghetti and meatballs were sought after dishes from friends and family alike. He relished spending time with family and his 4th of July and Christmas Eve celebrations were must attend events.

Del was a master storyteller and always had a magic trick or two up his sleeve. The “Wizard” left many mouths agape as a voice on the other end of a phone line correctly identified the card his mark was holding.

He will be greatly missed for his cheerful attitude and wonderful spirit.

Del passed away peacefully at home in Shelburne while holding the hand of his loving son John, Jr. as they slept watching TV.

Del was predeceased by his sister Dolores McMahon. Del leaves behind his son John Del Vecchio, Jr. (Ning), nieces, Kathy McMahon of Shelburne, Cindy Lyons (David) of Waterbury, Susan Elderton (Jim) of Shelburne, and “the twins”, Karen Spence (Matthew) of Singapore, and Sheila Morrissey (Dan) of Shelburne.

Due to COVID-19, there will be no calling hours. However, John, Jr. will eulogize his father along with a video presentation at which will be available from July 7, 2020. Please visit after July 7, 2020 for further information on future remembrances.
