Jean A. Pelis

Jean A. Pelis, 87, of Upland Road, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all those who shared her life. The daughter of the late Thomas and Congetta (Aquino) Purretta, she was born in Worcester, MA on October 5, 1933. Jean graduated from Commerce High School in 1952. On November 29, 1975 at St. Anne's church in Shrewsbury, MA, she married the love of her life, the late Joseph S. Pelis. They had one son who survives her, Joseph A. Pelis.
Jean was a professional singer for many years before settling down to raise a family. She sang with such artists as Jerry Vale, Johnny Cash, the Ray Stones Orchestra, Tony Zano, and the Vic Nisi Combo. She auditioned for the Arthur Godfrey show in New York as a result of placing second in a talent show at the Capital Theater in Worcester, MA. Jean recorded demonstration records at the Northeast Recording Studio in Worcester, MA. Additionally, she performed with the Murray Broder Entertaining Group for 19 years.
Family and God were both very important to Jean. She was always very thankful to be blessed with her own family. In addition to her son Joseph, she is survived by her nephew Michael Purretta whom she had guardianship over and raised. Michael and his wife Deborah Purretta reside in Douglassville, PA with her four grandchildren Kimberly, Christopher, Valerie, and Sean. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret (Purretta) Carlson of Shrewsbury, MA and many nieces and nephews.
In addition, Jean had many individuals in her life that she considered family. She had a gracious heart that would always lend a helping hand, listening ear, or gentle smile and laugh. Jean always found the positive in any situation. She relied on her faith to help those in need and would reach out to God to help her provide counsel to others.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 34 years, Joseph S. Pelis; brother Joseph T. Purretta of Shrewsbury, MA; sisters Francis E. Purretta of Worcester, MA, and Constance Marie (Purretta) Hovagimian of Millbury, MA.
She was one of a kind, with a great sense of humor, faith, and a caring personality. She touched the hearts of many creating positive memories and will be truly missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 30 Lincoln Street, Essex Junction with burial immediately following at Fairview Cemetery, Essex Junction.
