Wilma Pencek Sparhawk
Colchester - Wilma Pencek Sparhawk, 89, of Colchester, VT, formerly of Elkins Park, PA, died peacefully at home on April 24, 2018. She was born in Scranton, PA on May 29, 1928, to Edward George Pencek and Carolyn Steck Pencek, and grew up in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Her family later moved to Philadelphia and she graduated from Frankford High School. She attended Beaver College in Wyncote, PA. In 1952, she began work at Girard Trust Company, where she was employed until 1960. She married Sam Sparhawk III, of Burlington, VT, on May 31, 1958, and they raised their 3 children in Elkins Park. Wilma was active at St. John's Lutheran Church in Melrose Park, PA. Her favorite times were spent with family, at her sisters' homes in New Jersey, her parents' home in the Poconos, summer residence at Porter's Point, VT, and Ocean City, NJ. Sam and Wilma retired to Colchester in 2013. Survivors include her husband; daughter Jill Sparhawk Scott (Will) of Columbia, MD; son Sam Sparhawk IV (Barbara) of Rydal, PA; son Jeffrey Allen Sparhawk (Susan) of Schwenksville, PA; 7 grandchildren; brother Edward Pencek of Fairfax, VA; sister-in-law Mary Frances Graham of Colchester, VT; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Gertrude Wolfe and Joan Reilly. Visitation(10-11am) and service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28 at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Chapel, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Junction VT, 05452.
