Steven Michael Russell of Williston, Vermont, beloved son, friend, father and life partner, left this world far too soon, on December 18, 2019 at the age of 38.
Born and raised in Williston, Steve was a graduate of CVU High School and the Essex Tech Center automotive technology program. His dad, Mark, launched Steve’s lasting passion for high performance vehicles when they built a street stock car from the ground up and Steve raced it at Thunder Road.
His career in automotive technology took off as he brought his talent, skill and love of learning to several local businesses, starting with Washburn’s Auto in Essex Junction, Paya’s Auto in Williston, and finally as shop Foreman at Heritage Auto Group, where he spent the last 12 years of his professional life. Steve was a perfectionist in the very best way. He took enormous pride in his work and held himself to the highest standards. He was always eager to share his knowledge and skills with others in the automotive business. He was tireless in his pursuit of new and better ways to get the job done.
Steve’s greatest pride and personal satisfaction grew out of his role as Aida and Charlotte’s dad. There was never a time when he was too busy or too tired to be there for his girls, whether it was as their softball coach, video game competitor, chef, teacher or partner in adventure. He and his life partner, Grace, were a team in all things personal and professional, but especially as parents. Steve was deeply committed to his family and friends. His lifetime friendship with Corey Compagna and Andy Datillio were always a source of hilarity, comfort and cherished memories. Steve will always be remembered for his generosity and kindness, his adventurous spirit and contagious laugh that lifted the spirits of those around him.
Steve is survived by his life partner Grace O’Hara-Shea, his daughters, Aida Shea Russell and Charlotte Ann Russell, his parents, Mark and Penny Russell of Williston, his grandmother, Bette Russell of Hinesburg, and many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins, and his devoted hiking buddy Finn.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with a prayer service at 1:00 PM at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Chapel, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction VT. A small reception to celebrate Steve’s life will be held at the home of Mark and Penny Russell in Williston. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be made to the GoFundMe page established in Steve’s honor for the benefit of his daughters Aida and Charlotte at https://www.gofundme.com/f/for-grace039s-family?
