Roland James Mitchell
- - Roland James Mitchell, 71, passed away on January 4th 2019 while surrounded by his family following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on December 13, 1947 in Burlington, VT; the son of Raymond and Anita (LaMotte) Mitchell.
He served in Vietnam from 1969 - 1970 as part of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in the U.S Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star, among other honors. He married Susan Venne on February 5th, 1977 in Jericho, VT. He was a Stonemason for 45 years after learning the trade from his father. Roland's passion was bowling. He excelled at the sport and competed in many leagues through the years.
Roland is survived by his wife, Susan Mitchell; his three children, David Mitchell, Steven Mitchell, and Carrie Gordon; his grandson Michael and great-grandson Jace; his brothers Ralph, Melvin and Jeff Mitchell, and his sister Debra Morin. He was predeceased by his parents.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, January 8th from 4-7 PM, with prayers at 6 PM, at the Corbin & Palmer Funeral Chapel, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Jct. VT.
