Obituary

Patricia Evelyn (Dee) Gerecke

Williston – Patricia Evelyn (Dee) Gerecke, 85 went home to the lord peacefully at The Arbors in Shelburne, on December 28th, 2019, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Patricia was born March 17th, 1934 in Lima, Ohio, the second of four children to Maurice G. Dee and Doris J (Stewart) Dee.  She graduated from St. Mary of the Springs (Ohio Dominican University) in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics.

In 1964, Patricia married the love of her life George E. Gerecke and began to start their family.  They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1968, then moved to Williston, Vermont in 1975 where they settled with their three children.

Patricia is survived by her husband of 55 years George E Gerecke, her three children, sons Daniel G. Gerecke of Houston, Texas and David G. Gerecke of Tempe, Arizona; daughter Kathryn G. Reed and her husband Doug of Williston, Vermont, and three grandchildren, Keely A. Reed of South Burlington, Vermont, and Morgan P. and Brayden G. Reed of Williston, Vermont.  Also surviving her are her siblings, Rosemary Stepleton of Lima, Ohio; Thomas Dee and wife Susan of Lima, Ohio; Donald Dee and wife Sarah of Lima, Ohio; and her sister-in-law Kathryn E. Gerecke of Sag Harbor, New York, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.  She was predeceased by both her parents, brothers-in-law, James Stepleton of Lima, Ohio, Frank Gerecke and his wife Lorraine of Sag Harbor, New York, and nephew Terrence Stepleton of Lima, Ohio.

Patricia enjoyed volunteering in her spare time, for Meals on Wheels, American Red Cross and Vermont Respite House.  She was also very active in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and volunteered her time to the church as well.

Patricia was proud of her Irish heritage and would share that information with all those around her.  She loved to be the life of the party, to dance, sing and to entertain those around her.  She will also be known for her quick wit and her wonderful sense of humor.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the staff at The Arbors in Shelburne.  They made the last months of her life joyful and allowed her to be herself.  They treated her like family when we were unable to be there.  They listened to her stories, danced with her, sang with her and allowed her to enjoy all the attention that they gave.

Services will be planned for later in the Spring, and an updated notification will be provided at that time.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her honor.
