Joyce Pitts Desseau
Joyce Desseau, 82, of Williston passed away at the UVM Medical Center on Saturday, January 12, following a period of declining health. Joyce was born on April 28, 1936 in Burlington, VT to Edith Ruth (Kemp) and Lawrence Wynn Pitts. She originally lived in Colchester, but then moved with her family to Burlington to attend school. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1954 where she was a member of the Rainbow Girls and President of the Glee Club.
In 1959 Joyce moved to South Burlington. She enjoyed skiing, biking, photography and travel. She took numerous photos of all of the places she had been. She was known to friends and family for her many infamous one-liners that will ever be forgotten. She never lost her sense of humor, even through her illness. In 2016 she moved to Taft Farms Senior Community, where she had many good friends and loved to play Bingo. She was living with her eldest daughter most recently.
She is survived by her special friend and travel mate Ed Wright of Burlington; brother Daniel Pitts and his wife Teresa of St. George; daughters Kerra Desseau and her husband Joseph Kushner of Underhill, and Holly Kirk and her husband Tom of Williston; sons Paul Desseau and his wife Paula of Essex Jct., and John Desseau of South Burlington; 7 grandchildren Jennifer Doyon and her husband Jeremy of East Barre, Natalie Kirk of Williston, Kyle Desseau of Newport, Dustin and Wolfie Desseau of South Burlington, Bobby and Charlie Desseau of Essex Jct.; great granddaughter Madison; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Gareth Pitts, sister Katharine Moulton, nephews Jim Moulton and Kenneth Pitts.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 18 at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Chapel, 9 Pleasant St., Essex Jct., VT.
