John J. Keene
Essex Junction, VT
John J. Keene, 91, died August 29, 2019. He was born August 5, 1928 in Montpelier, VT, the son of Julius and Lois Mae (Wiltshire) Keene.
Mr. Keene graduated from Spaulding High School in 1946 and was employed in many positions by Green Mountain Power for 32 years. He was the manager at Green Mountain Credit Union where he was employed for six years, and after “retirement” for the City of Burlington as a parking lot attendant.
He was a stamp collector and crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Mr. Keene was a member of the Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president, secretary and treasurer. He was a member of the Essex Junction Senior Citizens where he also served as president. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 60 years, served as treasurer and sang bass in their choir.
He is survived by his wife, Roselyn F. Keene of Essex Junction; six children, daughter Linda Withington of Antrim, NH, daughter Carolyn Longe of Essex Junction, son Timothy Keene and wife, Darlene of Tijeras, NM, daughter Rosemary Boutin of Essex Junction, daughter Sarajean Shepardson of Essex Junction, and son Andrew Keene of Waterbury; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey Clark and wife Cassandra of Peterboro, NH, Christopher Clark and wife Dawn of Trenton MI, Rain Nichols and wife Kim of Desert Hills, AZ, Kristy Audette of Essex Junction, Katharina Vaughn of Tijeras, NM, Sharri Griego of Tijeras, NM, J. D. Shepardson of Westford, Mark and Peter Shepardson of Burlington, VT, and Victoria Keene of Waterbury; seven great-grandchildren, Jackson, Erich and Brady Clark of Peterboro, NH, Braeden Wahl of Fairfield, OH , Sophia Keene of Tijeras, NM, Cash and MacKenzie Nichols of Desert Hills, AZ; one brother, Thomas T. Keene; one sister, Virginia Patrick of CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Keene was predeceased by four brothers, William Keene, Carl C. Keene, Franklin Keene and Robert Richard Keene, and one sister, Marion Maloney.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church, 130 Maple Street, Essex Junction.
