- About Us
On Sunday, December 2, 2018, Grace Naylor of Essex, VT went to be with the Lord after a brief illness at the age of 100 plus years. She was a mom, best friend, and mentor to Pearl Baker of Essex, VT, Joan Naylor-Danell and her husband Mark of Wilmington, NC and an amazing grandmother to Lorraine Campbell and her husband Trevor, and Shane Forgays and his wife Tricia of Seattle, WA. She also leaves several grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whom she thought the world of.
She lived a long and busy life raising her family, taking care of family in need, crafting, making the most beautiful wool braided rugs and wonderful quilts that she used to sell out of her home, and spending countless hours trying to teach the art of rug making to many of her neighbors. Her granddaughter Lorrie became the most accomplished rug maker of any of us. She also spent many hours working in her beautiful flower gardens that drew a lot of attention from people driving by. They would stop and ask if they could take pictures. She was one of the first women to work for Aubuchon Hardware which she did for a number of years but the job she loved the most was working for Lorraine Canavins Wool Shop.
She was an active member of the Essex Center United Methodist Church for years and helped cook many of the wonderful chicken and biscuit dinners and her doughnuts for the sugar and snow parties were sought after by many in the area.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Harry Naylor, her granddaughter Lynn Baker, her son-in-law Robert Baker and all of her 12 brothers and sisters. We are very spoiled and very grateful to have had her in our lives so long, which makes it even harder to say good bye. There are no services at this time but memorial donations can be made to the Essex Center United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8074, Essex, VT 05451 or to your local Hospice.
Assisting with arrangements are the directors of Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Jct., VT.
