Obituary

George E Isham 94, of Williston, passed away peacefully in his sleep, the evening of Friday, Dec. 20, 2019 at Green Mountain Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Colchester, VT. He was born August 10, 1925 to George and Sylvia Isham of Williston.
On August 18, 1950 he married his wife, Eleanor, and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in August.
Many people knew him by his nickname Teenie. His Aunt Margaret (Wellinger) Powell stated when she first saw George: “He is a teeny little kid.” George’s father started calling little George “Teeny” and to this day many still call him by that nickname.
George grew up on the family farm on Oak Hill Road. He disliked working in the barn but loved working the fields. He shoed horses on the farm.
Early in George’s life he hauled milk cans for local farmers to the dairy, and lately by bulk truck. He delivered logs to the sawmills and other loads. In 1955 George worked for Bill Shortsleeves Trucking who also did contract for the Town of Williston.
When the town hired their own employees he worked as a grader operator for Coltran Paving and later worked for Shearer Chevrolet prepping used cars. In the late 1960s George returned to work on the roads for the Town of Williston Road Department retiring in 1989.
George loved the Grange and was a member of the Thomas Chittenden Grange, Beacon Light Grange, Chittenden County Pomona, Vermont State Grange and the National Grange for over 60 years.
George is survived by his wife Eleanor, their sons Jeff and his wife Elaine of Columbia, South Carolina, Kevin and his wife Gail of Randolph Ctr, VT, Terry and his girl friend Doreen of Essex, VT and Lori Leclair and her husband Ken of Colchester, VT. George leaves 11 grandchildren and 14 great children.
He is also survived by his siblings Shirley Miles, Charlotte Marcotte, Roderick Isham, David Isham, Elizabeth Eno, Evelyn McSweeney, Truman Isham, Marion Brooks and Margaret Kimball. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents George and Sylvia Isham and his brothers Kenneth, Donald, Alvin and sister Barbara.
