Colchester - Dwight K. Eddy passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the VNA Respite House in Colchester after a brief illness. 

Born at home in Hinesburg, VT June 3, 1922, Dwight was the son of Philip P. and Ruberta (Kimball) Eddy. Dwight graduated from Hinesburg High School in 1940 and enrolled in the University of Vermont in the fall of 1940. In 1942 he enlisted in the Army and was deployed overseas in 1944 where he fought in France and Germany during WW II, was wounded and awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

Dwight married Elizabeth G. Whitney December 11, 1943 in Concord, NH. She predeceased him on February 21, 1988. 

Dwight returned to UVM where he captained the football team, graduating in June 1947. After a few years as a high school teacher, he purchased the family farm in Hinesburg. In 1955 Dwight joined the UVM Extension Service retiring in 1982 with the title Professor Emeritus. 

In retirement he served many years as Assistant Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of the Middlebury Co-op Insurance Company. 

Dwight is survived by his children Bruce (Debra) Eddy of Essex Junction, VT, Jane Eddy Philips (Jack) of Milton, VT, William Eddy of South Burlington, VT, and Phyllis Eddy Gibbons (Chet) of Wilmington, NC. 

Also surviving are his grandchildren Eli (Kari) Phillips, Jessie Phillips, and Maggie and Hannah Carver, one great-grandchild Adeline Elizabeth Phillips, one brother Paul Eddy of Hinesburg, VT, two sisters Sylvia Peet of Richmond, VT and Carol Harper of Tallahassee, FL. 

Besides his parents Dwight was predeceased by one brother, Lawrence, and three sisters Phyllis, Frances and Emma.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gazebo Senior Living in South Burlington, VT for their compassionate care during Dwight's last 4½ years.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Hinesburg, 10570 VT-116, Hinesburg, VT.
