Donald E. Lawrence

Donald E. Lawrence, 88, passed away peacefully at the McClure-Miller Respite House on Friday, October 11, 2019. He was born in Colchester, VT April 12, 1931 the son of Howard and Helen (Bergeron) Lawrence. He graduated from Essex High School in 1949. After high school, Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On October 9, 1954 Donald married Christine DeForge, who predeceased him in 2013. During their 59 years together they made many happy memories.
Donald sold office equipment and furniture at the former McAuliffe’s Office Equipment located on the corner of Church and College Streets in Burlington retiring in 1987 after over 30 years of service.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Donald enjoyed antiques and “garage saling”. He also loved breakfast outings with his friends known as the “Breakfast Club.” Donald was a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Essex Center and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory are his son Dennis A. Lawrence of Burlington; daughter Cindy Lawrence Trahan and husband Larry C. Trahan of St. Simons Island, GA; daughter Sandy Jutras and husband Greg of Fairfield; Suzanne Messier and husband Pete of Essex Junction; grandchildren, Dawn Lawrence and Mike Porenta; Jessica Harrison and husband Jason; Capt. Gregory Trahan; J.D. Bowley and wife Victoria; Christina Nappi and husband Josh; Jordan Goetz and Amanda Lebeau; and Jake Messier; great-grandchildren, Katie Porenta, Makayla Harrison, Gavin Bowley, Domenica Bowley, Angelo Bowley, Savannah Nappi, Isaac Nappi and Carson Lebeau; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Christine Lawrence, daughter-in-law Kathryn; grandson Dennis Goetz; brother Ken Lawrence; and sister Ardelle St. Gelais.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the VA Home based program for the many years of exceptional care. Also sincere thanks to the UVM Home Health and Hospice organization and to the McClure Miller respite house for making his final days comfortable.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 20 Jericho Road, Essex Junction. Visiting hours will be Friday, October 18, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction.
