Arthur Eugene Merrill
Fort Mill, South Carolina
Arthur Eugene Merrill passed into a peaceful place, September 10, 2019 in Fort Mill, South Carolina on his 94th birthday. Born in Norwich, Vermont, he was the son of Leon and Florence Merrill, owners of A. H. Merrill Company, one of the finest General Stores in New England.
Arthur served in the Navy during World War II. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1950. Upon his graduation, he married Dorothy Alice Nye of Burlington, Vermont, who passed away in 1969. In 1971 Arthur married Heidi Ann Bakker who died in March 2016.
In 1985 he retired as business manager from St. Stephens Episcopal Boy’s School in Alexandria, Virginia. Previous positions included owner/operator of Northeast Imperial Oil Company in Springfield, Massachusetts and business credit manager at International Harvester in Hartford, Connecticut. Until 1998 he ran Bay Shore Cottages in Colchester, Vermont on Lake Champlain.
Survivors include his daughter Dawn Edwards of Fort Mill, South Carolina; son Lindsay Merrill of South Hero, Vermont; and step-children Bron, Eric and Heidi Gervais.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
