Althea A. Clark
Althea A. Clark 87, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Burlington Health and Rehab. She was born in Medford, Massachusetts, April 5, 1931, the daughter of the late Harvey E. and Theresa (Dix) Averill. Althea graduated from Dean Academy and attended the Bouve-Boston School of Physical Education, Tufts University.
Althea married George E. Clark in Medford, Massachusetts on April 5, 1953. The couple moved to Vermont in 1969. Althea loved her family and was proud to have been a stay at home mom for many years for her two daughters, Constance and Pamela; her family was always her priority.
Althea was a spirited woman with a strong moral compass. She had a very generous heart and was always there for neighbors and friends in their time of need.
When the girls were in high school Althea returned to work taking a position in the cash office at J. C. Penney on Church Street in Burlington and later at the University of Vermont in the Book Department. Together George and Althea started The Purple Onion “TPOGA” in 1983. They traveled to a number of antique shows each year and formed many cherished and lasting friendships.
Althea and George joined the First Congregational Church in 1970 and were very active in church and community activities. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed card games with friends, swimming, antiques, music, and puzzles. To say Althea loved cats was an understatement. Some of her fondest memories were those of time spent at Sunrise Camp at Lake Groton.
She is survived by her two loving and devoted daughters; Constance (Clark) Dibble and husband Joseph A. of Bovina Center, New York, and Pamela Reese Clark of Burlington, Vermont. She is also survived by Jordan and Marisa Dibble, (great grandsons Jasper and Justice) of Hobart, NY; step-grandson Jesse and Tiffany Dibble and family of Ocean Port, NJ; Mary Dix of Houston, TX; Walter and Dorothy Miller of NC; William and Charlotte Dix of IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Althea was predeceased by her husband, George, in 1999; her sister, Mary A. Dolan in 1983; and brother-in-law Philip Dolan in 2012.
Her dear friends at the Pines Retirement Community were a very special part of her life. The family gratefully acknowledges the heartfelt care Althea received from Dr. Jennifer Gilwee and the Unit 4 Staff at Burlington Health and Rehabilitation (notably, Alexa).
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 1pm to 2pm at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Chapel, 209 Falls Road, Shelburne, VT followed by a 2pm service at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Bayada Hospice Care, 2517 Shelburne Road, Suite #1, Shelburne, VT 05482
