Albert T. Maxson

Age: 81 • Essex Junction

Albert Thomas Maxson, 81, of Essex Junction, Vermont passed away peacefully on the afternoon of May 11th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House after his brave and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Al was born on November 20th, 1935 to Carl John Maxson and Helen Frances Triller. He graduated from Glens Falls High School in 1953 and then continued his education at the University of Vermont where he graduated in 1958 with a degree in Political Science. Afterward, he proudly served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant and Company Commander. He was honorably discharged in 1961 and entered graduate school at the University of Vermont. It was then that he met Shirley Woodard who became his beloved wife of 53 years. Al and Shirley were married on June 15th, 1963 at Saint Joseph's Parish in Burlington, Vermont. They then started their family and lives together in South Burlington, VT. They relocated several times throughout the country as he pursued his career in finance. Because of his love for Vermont and his desire to be closer to family, Al and Shirley moved their family back to Vermont in 1977. He worked as the Chief Financial Officer at Harbor Industries in Shelburne, VT until his retirement in 1999.

Al was devoted to and took great pride in his family. Above all, the most important thing to him was to be a caring husband, father and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was to see that his passion for family was passed down to his children. He was a true patriot, loved his country, was an avid reader, specifically United States History. His knowledge of history served him well during retirement years working as a guide at the Shelburne Museum. You would often find him at the sidelines of one his grandchildren's sporting events cheering them on. Some of his best times were spent doing home improvement projects with his brothers-in-law.

Al is survived by his wife Shirley, his son Richard Maxson and his wife Dawn and their children Paige and Daniel, his daughter Stacey Morrissey and her children Kaitlyn and Ryan, his daughter Stephanie Maxson and her husband Brad Lang. Their children Jennifer Benoit and her husband Joe and their son Joey, Chelsea Maxson and her companion Ralph Madison, and Shelby Lang. He is also survived by his brother Preston Maxson of Pearl Mississippi and many extended loving family members that were dear to him.

Our family would like to extend our gratitude to the Oncology Department at the UVM Medical Center, the McClure Miller VNA Respite House and to his family doctor, Peter Gunther for their wonderful
