Ada G. Torrey
March 16, 1915 – September 22, 2019
Ada was the 5th of 8 children born to Edward and Barbara (Bucky) Brown in Wallingford, Vermont on March 16, 1915. Her mother was a school teacher and her father worked for the State Highway Department. On the day Ada was born, the doctor came out to the parlor to inform her father that his daughter was born underweight and “she will never make old bones!” She prided herself on out-living “even the doctor!”
Ada graduated from Wallingford High School in 1933. She moved to Burlington and married Robert Arnold, a general contractor. Together they raised four children: Joan, Jackie, Patricia, and Edward. They enjoyed their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After Robert’s death, Ada went to work at IBM. She subsequently married James Torrey, an employee of Vermont Transit.
She was predeceased by both her husbands, her daughter, Patty, son Ed, and two granddaughters.
Her family and friends want to extend their gratitude for the wonderful, compassionate care Ada received as a resident at St. Joseph’s Home in Burlington.
At her request, there were no visiting hours. A Mass was said for her at St. Joseph’s Home on September 23, 2019 and she was buried in Resurrection Park, on September 26, 2019.
