Walter L. Barron, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 27, 2017 at Allenwood in South Burlington after a brief battle with cancer.
Walter was born in Burlington on August 8, 1928, the son of the late Leona Brown and Walter L. Barron, Sr. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946.
After high school Walter joined the Army and served his country overseas before being called back to the states to serve his family. He went to work for the New England Telephone & Telegraph Company where he worked for 36 years in Bennington, St. Albans, St. Johnsbury and Burlington VT. In his semi-retirement Walter worked part-time as a professional photographer and realtor. Walter was an avid golfer, camper and devoted father who coached many of his children's sports teams, and was a Boy Scout leader and President of the St. Albans Little League. He also volunteered on the Vatican II council for the Catholic Church. Walter and Pat enjoyed the many years they spent together with their Cathedral classmates as part of the "Watch Hill Gang" as they enjoyed a lifetime of memories with Bishop Louis E. Gelineau, Bishop of Providence, a childhood friend and classmate from a very young age.
Walter was pre-deceased by his wife of over 60 years, Patricia A. Barron, who passed away October 1, 2015. Walter is survived by his six children, John A. Barron and wife Nancy of Bedford, NH, Jill A. Tucker and husband Tod of Lanexa, VA, Judy A. Towers and husband Lee of Burlington, VT, James A. Barron and wife Ann of East Charleston, VT, Jay R. Barron of St. Albans, VT, and Jeffrey A. Barron and wife Judy of South Burlington, VT, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Evelina (Tiny) Gadhue.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the care and attention from the staff at Allenwood in South Burlington, who looked after Walter in his final years.
Calling hours will be from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Corbin & Palmer Funeral Chapel, 209 Falls Road, Shelburne. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church in Burlington on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11 am. Internment will follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington. A reception will follow at the Sunset Ballroom in South Burlington.
