Priscilla "Pat" (Brownell) Brown of Underhill passed away peacefully with family by her side at Mansfield Place in Essex Junction, VT on Saturday, the 24th of June 2017. She was 100 years old and died just one week short of her 101st birthday. Priscilla was the daughter of Henry C. and Jane (Menut) Brownell, who both spent many years in China where Henry was a professor of history and political science at Lingnan University in Canton, now Guangzhou. Priscilla was born in Canton in 1916. She attended Chinese-American and Burlington schools. She graduated from high school at Shanghai American School in 1933 and from Vassar College in 1937. She married William C. "Bill" Brown in 1938, having met Bill while he was a cavalry officer at Fort Ethan Allen. After World War II, Priscilla settled with her family in Elmira, New York. She and Bill relocated to the Burlington area in 1966. She taught at Orchard School in South Burlington and volunteered at Underhill ID School after her retirement. She was a member of Klifa Club and an honorary life member of Lake Champlain Yacht Club. Priscilla was predeceased by her husband in 2008, by her brothers Lincoln of Williston and Chauncey of Burlington, and by her sisters Ruth Cooper of Colchester and Elizabeth Montgomery of South Hero. She is survived by her son William C. Brown III and his wife Jill of Greenbank, Washington, her daughter Christine Chase and her husband Jack of Jericho, former daughter-in-law Anne Brown of South Burlington, grandchildren Kirk and Heather Brown, Seth Chase and his wife Eleni Goranites, Clay Chase and his wife Jessa McCartney, great-grandchildren Parker and Carly Brown, and many nieces and nephews from the Brownell, Cooper and Montgomery branches of her extended family.Pat loved working with children and visited the library in Underhill almost weekly. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library, 8 River Road, Jericho, VT 05465.A small private family remembrance will be held to honor her life.
