Pauline Tomasini Trottier
Age: 85 • Burlington
Pauline Tomasini Trottier peacefully passed away surrounded by her devoted husband and children on April 6, 2017.
She was born in Barre, Vermont on May 16, 1932, the daughter of Dorothy Cook Tomasini and Paul Richard Tomasini. Pauline graduated from Spaulding High School, class of 1950, where she met Benoit (Ben) Trottier, and a true love story began.
Pauline and Ben married on September 4,1954, and within days of their wedding moved to Washington, DC. for Ben to begin his studies at Georgetown University Dental School. Pauline worked as a secretary at National Life Insurance in Vermont and carried those skills to the National Fisheries Institute in D.C., supporting Ben while he pursued his degree. And together they began to fulfill their destiny. Ben's dental career and service in the U.S. Air Force later brought them to Dover, Delaware. But eventually their mutual love for the Green Mountains brought them back to Vermont. They returned to their family and friends in Barre with two young daughters in 1959. After happy years in their hometown, and with two more additions to their growing family, they relocated to Burlington in 1966, where they raised and nurtured all six of their children.
Pauline devoted her life selflessly to her children and extended family. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and an extraordinary cook and hostess. She opened her home and her kitchen with a full heart to family and many friends. She and Ben were involved with and organized countless fundraising events at Mater Christi, Christ the King, and Rice High School.
Pauline and Ben's eventful and wonderful life together brought them to Italy many times. Pauline was immensely proud of her Italian heritage and has instilled that in all of her children. She remained in touch with her relatives in Feriola, Italy her entire life. Her energy to that end has created lasting relationships for all of her family. Pauline's respect and commitment to her aging parents and extended family was truly remarkable.
When their life allowed them, Pauline and Ben spent their winters in Southwest Florida. Sanibel Island was a family vacation destination for many years. The memories shared in this beautiful place will be cherished by her children and grandchildren.
For all who were touched by Pauline, a bright light has gone out. But her legacy of love and devotion to family will live on. Pauline leaves her husband Ben, the love of her life for more than 62 years, her six children, Susan Trottier, Carolyn Nardi and her husband Michael of Linwood, NJ, Peter Trottier and Wife Tia, Michelle Trottier, Beth Trottier and Kylee Gerohristodoulos and her husband John of Clarksville, MD. Twelve grand children, Ben and Jack Trottier, Christopher and Nicole Nardi, Sydney and Natalie Stockmann, Madeleine, Lilly and Charlie Decelles, and Michael, Timothy and Loucas Gerohristodolous. Pauline is also survived by her brother, Richard (Dick) Tomasini of Barre, and her "sister like" relative, Elizabeth Camoli Bond, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the staff at Ethan Allen Residence for their amazing care and affection for Pauline over the last several months. Gratitude is also extended to Tony Pomerleau for his friendship and support to Ben. There will be visitation on Monday, April 10th at 9:30am, immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am both at Christ the King Church 136 Locust St. Burlington, VT.
