Age: 103 • Essex Junction

Mary A. (Valyou) Bergeron, 103, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Starr Farm Nursing Center where she had resided since July.

Mary was born June 2, 1914, the eldest child of Nelson and Adelaide (Parizo) Valyou. She attended school in Essex Junction, graduating in 1933. After attending Burlington Business College she worked at Fanny Allen Hospital. In 1943 she started working for Aetna Insurance Company and retired in 1972 as a claims adjuster.

She married Harold Bergeron February 17, 1943, and their union produced one daughter, Ann (Lawrence) Yandow.

She was a 75+ year member of the Grange, having held offices at the local, county, and State levels. She was recognized as National Junior Grange Director of the Year in 1972. She was also active with COTS, RSVP, Red Cross, GAR, as a village election worker and the first President of the Essex Senior Center.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Mary is survived by a grandson, Christopher (Nicole) Yandow, two great-grandsons, Bradley and Camden Yandow, her "Favorite daughter", Linda Wilds and her family, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Monday, November 20th from 3 to 5 pm at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant Street, Essex Junction, with a Grange service at 4:30 pm. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, November 21st at 2 pm at the Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home Chapel with a private burial on Wednesday.
