Marjorie "Marge" (Montgomery) Durett passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2017 with her husband and family by her side.
Marge was born in Randolph, VT on August 28, 1928 to the late Arthur and Hattie (Swan-Dickerson) Montgomery. She graduated from Johnson Normal School (known as Johnson State College) and pursued her passion of teaching in a one-room schoolhouse in Rockbridge, VT for two years. Marge married the soul mate and love of her life, Lester Allen Durett of Waterbury Center, VT on November 14, 1947. Together, they raised three children in Colchester, VT where she served as the grade school mathematics teacher for over 30 years. Marge and Lester built a new home and retired to Williston, VT in 1999.
Marge will be remembered for her generosity, big heart, love of music and beautiful white hair. Along with Lester, she was always the first to offer a helping hand to her family, friends and community and enjoyed everyone she met. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family and grandchildren, dancing with Lester and their friends of the Lake Champlain Squares group and making new recipes as often as possible. She also loved to entertain and make their home festive for every season and holiday. Both Marge and Lester enjoyed hosting dances in the basement of their Williston home, playing cards and dominos with friends at the kitchen table and gathering around the television to cheer on the UVM Men's Basketball team with their friends.
Marge is survived by her husband Lester and their three children - Carol Durett of Milton, VT, Cindy (Durett) Marcotte and her husband John of Williston, VT and Brian Durett and his wife Kathy of Cambridge, VT - their cherished granddaughters and two great-granddaughters - Stacy (Marcotte) McLean and her husband Brian of Schenectady, NY and their two daughters, Shelby and Kinley, Kelly Marcotte of Essex, VT and Courtney (Durett) Dolecki and her husband Eric of Seymour, CT - in addition to several nieces and nephews.
