Joyce Ann Edwards

Age: 77 • Granville

Joyce Ann (Sanders) Edwards, 77 of Granville, NY passed peacefully on April 12, 2017, a beautiful spring evening with her family by her side following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Joyce was born November 26, 1939 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the Daughter of the late Claire and Isabelle Sanders. She was raised in Binghamton, NY and she attended college at the University of NY, Hollins College, VA, the University of CA Santa Barbara and ultimately earned her PHD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Vermont.

She and her business partner, and close friend, Barbara Kester operated their own practice, the Wright House, for in years in Colchester, VT. She was also a professor at Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT where she inspired young minds in the field of psychology.

She was a long-time resident of South Hero, Vermont where she raised her family. She was a loving mother and special friend and always brought with her a smile when she walked in to a room. She enjoyed a very active and full filled life and was involved with many things including the local Rotary chapter and book clubs, and engaged in many activities such as taking sailing lessons, entertaining and cooking with friends, and most importantly flower gardening where she spent many pleasant hours of her free time creating a beautiful oasis surrounding her home in South Hero. Her favorite flower was the Iris.

She was a true lover of life and of people, and also enjoyed reading a great book, taking walks on pleasant days, attending plays, appreciating art and antiques, and travel. People who knew Joyce will remember mostly her ability to tune into the feelings of others and provide them comfort in the form of a special shared moment or thoughtful gift when they needed it most.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents Claire and Isabel Sanders and her sister Barbara Cox who she shared a close bond with over the years. She is survived by her loving children, Eric Edwards of Ballston Spa, NY, Teri (Edwards) McNall and husband Jesse of Granville, NY; 3 grandchildren, Kassie, Tristan and Alexis; Brother in law Dane Cox and Niece Gina Cox of Ft. Defiance, VA; Niece Sheri (Cox) Melnick and husband Wayne and their children Caitlin, Samantha, Spencer and Stephen of Enola, PA.

The family would also like to share a special mention and thank you to all the staff at the Orchard Nursing Facility in Granville NY for their loving care of Joyce over the last couple of years where she was welcomed into their family with an open heart and who provided a special caring touch in difficult times, and for making her transition from this life to the next so comfortable.

The family will receive friends Monday April 17, 2017 from 3:30pm-5:30pm at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St, Essex Junction, and Pastor George Steffani will be conducting a service at the same location at 5:30pm. Graveside service to be performed at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or other honorable charity that is working hard to battle this disease.
