GLENN ALFRED ASHLEY 1957 – 2017

BURLINGTON

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Glenn A. Ashley on September 13, 2017. Glenn was born in Burlington, VT, September 21, 1957 to Theodore and Betty (Hutchinson) Ashley.   “Glenn-o” was a long time employee at VT Paint Company. Customers and co-workers alike enjoyed his cheerful disposition and quick wit.

He and his companion of many years, Carol Smith, enjoyed every free moment during the summer fishing off Carol’s boat.  Glenn enjoyed playing his guitar, singing and listening to classic rock, especially Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Glenn’s children, Kate and Tim have many fond family memories of summer in St. Albans camping, playing horseshoes, and bonfires at the home of Carol’s daughter and son-in-law Kim and Ron Ploof.

Glenn was a free spirit and spent many hours riding his motorcycle.  More recently Glenn enjoyed riding his bicycle around Burlington, particularly along the lakefront and Church Street. Glenn adored his four parakeets. He loved watching them play and would let them fly around his apartment.

Glenn will be greatly missed by all who knew him but especially by his children in whom he was so proud.

Glenn was predeceased by his parents, his companion Carol Smith and his brother Wayne.  He is survived by his three children: Tim and his girlfriend Erin of So. Burlington, Kate Johnson and her husband Derek of WI, and Leigha Perry and  her husband Anthony of OR.  Also surviving is his sister-in-law Pam Ashley of Williston, Karriann Poulin of Colchester, and grandchildren Timothy, Ava, Blake, Drew, Julianne, Madelyn and Ava.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Essex Junction.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Feathered Hearts Avian Rescue, c/o Mysty and Tony Olson, 23 Hanna Road, Highgate, VT  05459.
