Dolores “Dodie” Del Vecchio McMahon

October 2, 1931 ~ March 23, 2018 (age 86)

Dolores “Dodie” Del Vecchio McMahon of Shelburne, Vermont passed away on March 23, 2018. She was born October 2, 1931 in Syracuse, New York, to loving parents Honorable Frank Del Vecchio and Angela (Pirro) Del Vecchio of Syracuse.

Dodie attended Syracuse University before working for Colonial Airlines. In 1955 she married Joseph “Mickey” McMahon and together they had five daughters. Dodie moved to Vermont in 1989, first to Waitsfield, then settled in Shelburne.

Mom loved her Italian heritage and enjoyed family trips to Italy; family was everything to her. She loved celebrating holidays with large family gatherings as she traditionally made her famous sauce, cavatelli and meatballs (And, no, she never divulged the secret ingredient). Her love of family extended to neighbors and friends who will fondly remember her homemade chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, fun late-night popcorn parties and the laughter she created during exercise class. We all loved her lively sense of humor, which will truly be missed, especially at our annual family reunion at Silver Lake, fondly referred to as Survivor Adirondacks. Life will never be the same without Nutty Nanzo.

Mom, we know “you had the time of your life”.

Dodie leaves behind her brother, John Del Vecchio of Shelburne (formerly of Syracuse, NY); daughters, Kathy McMahon of Shelburne, Cindy Lyons (David) of Waterbury, Susan Elderton (Jim) of Shelburne, and “the twins”, Karen Spence (Matthew) of Balmain, Australia, and Sheila Morrissey (Dan) of Shelburne. Her nephew John Del Vecchio, Jr. (Ning). She was predeceased by Brian Byrne who she considered part of her family.

“Nanny” adored her 11 grandchildren, Kathryn, Conor and Eamon Lyons; Robbie, Angela, Emily Dolores (Max), and Nicky Elderton; Shayne, Danielle, Terry and Michael Morrissey.

A sincere thank you to the wonderful Gardenview staff at Converse Home for all of the love and care they provided Dodie over the last 3 years. We are truly grateful.
