Delmer Frederic Borah III
Delmer Frederic Borah III passed away peacefully on May 4, 2017.
Del was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on January 26, 1928. He graduated from Rutland High School, served in the United States Navy and attended the University of Vermont. He then went to work at General Electric in Burlington. After that he worked for IBM in Essex Junction, where he attained an engineering title. He retired at age 56. In 2014, Del was predeceased by Elizabeth (Betty), his loving wife and companion of 64 years. He is survived by two of his sisters, four children, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. His good humor, sharp wit and endless energy will be greatly missed by his family and friends, his special neighbors, his excellent exercise class, his home-sharer Geoff, and his dear friend Ann.Del loved gardening, camping and traveling. He built a large backyard pond and stocked it with fish. For over 20 years he helped organize and took part in an annual family reunion camping trip on Lake Champlain. He enjoyed working on handyman projects in his well-stocked workshop, where he could build or fix just about anything for anybody. He was an avid fan of the UVM hockey team, the NY Giants and the Weather Channel. In the mid-1960's Del was a founding member and originator of many of the ideas behind the Brownell Mountain Ski Club. He was President of the Club for the first six years. In those days the Club operated a small rope tow on Brownell Mountain that was powered by an old automobile and an entire family could get a seasons pass for just $50 plus a little elbow grease. Del was a Select Board Member in the town of Willliston. He was instrumental in the development of Rossignol Park in Williston. For the last few years he participated in the HomeShare Vermont program. He wanted to share his home with someone who was seeking a place to live in return for sharing the work around the house. Last year HomeShare introduced him to Geoff, a recent St. Michael's graduate, who became his good friend as well. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the awesome caregivers on Shepardson 4 of the UVM Medical Center for all their sensitive and compassionate help during Del's last days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 10th at 11 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Williston Vermont. Corbin and Palmer Funeral and Cremation Service, Essex Junction, is in charge of arrangements. A family cemetery service and burial will occur at a later time.
